Kerala to allow private practice of doctors in Govt Medical Colleges
Congress-led UDF government in Kerala may soon allow doctors in government medical colleges to practise privately, an option banned by the previous LDF regime.
The government will hold discussions with all concerned parties and take a decision on allowing private practice of doctors of medical colleges, with some pre-conditions, said Health Minister Adoor Prakash.
The LDF government had banned private practice holding that doctors were not getting enough time for research and patients who approached medical colleges faced difficulties due to this.
"The Government's priority in health sector is to improve infrastructure facilities in government hospitals and also ensure good quality treatment," said Prakash.
He also said a 100-day action plan to develop facilities in government hospitals and preventive measures to check monsoon related diseases would be taken up on war-footing.
In order to overcome the shortage of doctors in hospitals, permission has been given to authorities to appoint doctors on temporary basis by holding walk-in-interviews at district levels, he said.
