Puthur Sheela case: Kanakaraj gets death penalty




The main accused of the Puthur Sheela muder case, Kanakaraj has been given the greatest punishment of hanging till death.

The Palakkad Additional District and Sessions Court had yesterday acquitted Manikandan, the third accused in the murder case, for lack of evidence.

Kanakaraj was found guilty of various charges, including murder, robbery and attempt of murder.


Sheela, wife of a businessman, was killed in 2010 at her house at Puthur. Her mother Karthiyayini was also attacked by a three-member gang.

There were three accused in the case, including Sampath, the first accused, who later died in police custody. The custodial death of Sampath was currently being investigated by the CBI.
